Therapeutic Recreational Therapy Program
Ability Inclusion Services' Therapeutic Recreation Therapy (TRT) Program is a person centered, evidence-based approach that uses meaningful recreation and leisure activities to promote physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual well-being for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Rather than focusing on limitations or simply filling time, the program is built around the belief that people thrive when they engage in activities they enjoy and find meaningful. Through individualized and group-based recreation experiences such as fitness activities, adaptive sports, games, community outings, life skills training, creative expression, and social engagement, participants build confidence, strengthen relationships, and develop skills that support greater independence and quality of life.
The program helps individuals flourish by creating opportunities for growth in all areas of life. Therapeutic Recreation interventions are designed to improve physical health, cognitive functioning, emotional regulation, communication, social skills, and community participation. Participants receive both one on one and group sessions in a safe, adaptive environment where activities are tailored to their interests, abilities, and goals. A key focus of the program is reducing isolation and increasing meaningful connections through relationship building, social competence, healthy boundaries, and community inclusion. By combining clinical recreation practices with a supportive community environment, this program helps individuals lead more active, engaged, and fulfilling lives while fostering independence, personal growth, and meaningful social connections.
Evidence-Based Interventions
Our Therapeutic Recreation Therapy Program begins with evidence-based interventions designed to strengthen physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning. Each session is intentionally planned to support individual goals while promoting overall health, independence, and well-being.
Specialized Support
Participants receive individualized and group-based sessions in a safe, adaptive environment guided by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Unlike traditional clinical settings, our TRT program provides ongoing opportunities to practice skills, build relationships, and experience meaningful community connections.
Meaningful Outcomes
Every Session is an opportunity for growth. Through purposeful recreation experiences, participants improve psychological, cognitive, social, physical, and spiritual well-being while building independence, confidence, and a greater quality of life.
